5 Website Mistakes That Are Costing Small Businesses Customers
Most small business websites lose customers for the same handful of reasons. Here are the five we see most — and the quick fix for each.

We have audited a lot of small business websites. The same five problems show up again and again, and every one of them is fixable without a full rebuild.
1. The phone number is not clickable
Over half your traffic is on a phone. If your number is an image, or buried in a footer, or not a real tel: link, you are asking mobile visitors to manually copy and dial a number. Most will not bother.
2. It takes more than three seconds to load
Google has confirmed load time affects both rankings and conversions. A site that takes eight seconds to load on a phone loses over half its visitors before they see a single word of your copy.
3. There is no clear next step above the fold
Visitors decide whether to stay in about three seconds. If the first screen does not answer "what do you do" and "what do I do next," most people leave without scrolling.
4. It looks the same as it did five years ago
Design trends age fast, and homeowners notice. An outdated site quietly signals an outdated business, even if your actual work is excellent.
5. There is no real proof anyone has hired you before
No reviews, no photos of real jobs, no case studies. Trust is the entire job of a service-business website, and proof is what builds it.
None of these require starting from scratch. Most are a focused week of work — which is usually all it takes to turn a site from a digital brochure into something that actually books jobs.
